The name "snake wood" was clearly inspired by the snakeskin-like markings that decorate this exotic wood. Known technically as piratinera guianensis , snake wood comes from a small, relatively rare tree found in the forests of Central and South America .Initially deep red in color, snake wood changes its stripes (so to speak) upon being exposed to air, which makes the wood eventually turn reddish brown. An extremely dense hardwood, snake wood can be somewhat challenging to work with.

Tiger Ebony Omerica is happy to have a small supply of this great and very rare wood. This Tiger Ebony is native to India, and South East Asia. Hard to find and will not be in stock for long. The tree still grows and the fruit that it produces has helped the medical community with medicinal uses. This wood is only gathered once it has fallen dead.
