Product Descriptions: Gaboon Ebony

Color: Generally jet black but sometimes with lighter colored streaks.

The Tree: Grows to a height of 50-60 feet with a 24" trunk diameter.

The Wood:Hard and heavy, fine textured with metallic luster. Finishes smoothly and produces a high polish.

Source Region:Africa - Gold Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Zaire.

Product Descriptions: Bloodwood

Color: Rich strawberry red sometimes with golden yellow stripes.

The Tree: Bloodwood is sometimes referred to as cardinal wood, for its obvious beautiful deep rose colour. With age it's colour does darken, but not significantly so it is a great wood to use in intarsia projects.

The Wood:Also called Satine. Hard and heavy. Takes a high lustrous finish.

Source Region:Venezuela, Peru, Panama, Brazil.

Product Descriptions: Pink Ivory

Color: Light pink to dark pink and red, with lighter and darker shades of yellow and red, sometime gray.

The Tree: A small to medium sized tree rarely exceed .04m in diameter

The Wood:Straight to irregular grain, fine even texture. Dries rapidly with little degrade. Commercially one of the rarest woods in the world.

Product Descriptions: Vera

Color: Vera wood, especially on the lower part of the trunk, is smooth in texture. This wood will turn a darker green when in contact with the sun. Cool effect, just FYI.

Product Descriptions: Wild Olive

Color: light brown to dark brown with irregular streaks of gray, brown, and black giving a marble like appearance. Irregular interlocked grain, fine even texture.

The Tree: The tree grows to about 15m high with a diameter of about .25m.

The Wood:Fine texture, high luster, and takes a high polish. Hard and heavy.

Source Region:Tropical South America, especially Northeast Brazil

Product Descriptions: Chechen

Color: Red golden-brown, lots of variation.

The Tree: Caries from a shrub to medium trees reaching up to 50 feet in height with a trunk diameter of 18-24". Sap is said to be caustic and should be avoided, but the wood is not.

The Wood:Texture is fine and uniform, pores barely visible; grain often interlocked. The wood works with some difficulty due to its hardness and density, and sharp tools must be used. Easy to finish and takes an excellent polish.

Typical Uses:Furniture, flooring, turnery, accessories.

Color: Osage Orange The sapwood is a light yellow color, and the heartwood is usually a greenish-yellow, or golden-yellow to bright orange when it is first cut.

The Tree: Mature osage orange trees are reported to reach 50 feet (15 m) in height, and have a trunk diameter of about 2 feet(60 cm).

The Wood:Osage orange was originally planted as natural hedges to serve as fencing for livestock. The name of this tree comes from the Osage Indians that lived in the tree's native areas, and from the orange-peel aroma from the fruit's skin.

Source Region:Osage orange can be found in nearly every area of the United States with its major concentration found in the Great Plains area. Native to southern Oklahoma and northern Texas
